INVITO Milano 2025

Andare oltre l’esperienza

Grazie a Memmo.

Beyond experience

from 13 December 2024 to 9 March 2025 at the Contemporary Art Center of Torun – CENTRUM SZTUKI WSPÓŁCZESNEJ_W TORUNIU – the exhibition Enzo Berti Murano Rediscover will be presented.

An exhibition unusually, not made up of works but proposing a journey that turns a story into a unique work dedicated to Venice and the thousand-year history of Murano glass.
The entire work aims to bring back to the light of day who Murano was and is: a thousand years of history in which, from glass made to create objects, glass is modeled into a work of art.

A fixed work in movement in which there is no longer a space limit, the visitor becomes part of it and continuously contributes to its change, it is a work in continuous transformation that allows itself to be touched, modified, experienced. A work that develops between limitless spaces and tangible works designed in an alternative way, giving shape to glass.

The first part of the work: “Illusione” (Illusion in English) wants to represent the two great discoveries of the island of Murano: the mirror and the crystal. The mirror for Murano is a story of discovery, of disclosure bans, of industrial espionage, of millenary knowledge passed down orally even today within the furnaces.
Usually the mirror reflects, it is passive in front of those who approach it, it is in some ways impenetrable. In “Illusione” we go beyond this common point of view, finding a space, an illusion, in which shapes and colors enter the mirror and accompany the visitor inside the work. There is no longer a space limit, the visitor continuously contributes to its change. The mirror becomes an instrument of passage from the real to the surreal, creating an illusory space starting from commonly used objects that present themselves with surreal dimensions and movements.

The second part: “Beyond the experience” reinterprets Murano glass as a fabric, where the rigidity of the glass leaves room for movement, where transparencies and colors intertwine, giving life to unique real objects. Thanks to Memmo.Venezia, an approach to glass has taken shape which, despite having its roots in the thousand-year history of the island, has been able to look beyond, seeking new techniques that could bring together the rigidity of glass with the softness and warmth of fabrics. Glass spinning sees the material from another perspective, going beyond what has always been done, creating a unique and unrepeatable fusion of colours.

In this space, in addition to the “spun” objects that can also have a “function”, there are:
Sole Nascosto, linked to Venice and the East, in shades of red and black bring Venice back to China, retracing Marco Polo’s journey
Totem, recalls the Venice Carnival and the mask that guarantees animation and makes the person free to express themselves without constraints.
Buco Nero, think back to the streets of Venice, narrow, sometimes dark but which allow a glimpse of the light of the sky or the lagoon on the horizon.

The Third Part of the work: “Laguna” (Lagoon in English) closes the journey into the surreal world of Murano, the mirror becomes water. For a long time, man reflected only in water. In this space the illusion is created that the mirror is water and at the same time the water once again becomes a mirror of the Venetian lagoon.
